The 4th Annual Academy Awards were held at the Biltmore Hotel on November 10, 1931. The ceremony was attended by U.S. Vice President Charles Curtis, partly to thank the industry for its morale boosting role in the Great Depression.

The fourth ceremony also saw the event getting a lot more attention from media across the U.S. and the Don Lee-Columbia network broadcast the ceremony along the Pacific Coast.
