Academy First Vice President Sid Ganis will return as chair of the Governors Ball of the 71st Academy Awards®, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Robert Rehme announced today.

1999 will mark the fourth time that Ganis has chaired the post-awards dinner-dance for winners, nominees, presenters and telecast participants.

"Every year the Governors Ball presents an exciting new challenge - how to top the year before. Can it even be done? Last year's party was a great success, the guests enjoyed the cuisine and the glamour of the Italian mosaics, and this was reflected by people staying late into the evening," said Ganis. "I think we have the most exciting party in town."

The Governors Ball will be held immediately following the 71st Academy Awards® Presentation on Sunday, March 21, 1999. Sunday at the Oscars will be televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. (PST) with a half-hour pre-show segment preceding the presentation ceremony.
