44th Annual American Music Awards (2016)

Welcome to our coverage of the 44th American Music Awards. The nominations were announced by Joe Jonas and Rachel Platten on ABC's Good Morning America on October 10th, 2016, while the ceremony took place on Sunday, November 20 at 8:00pm ET at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. We'll have live coverage starting at 8pm.

The show opens with tonight's hosts, Gigi Hadid and Jay Pharoah, introducing a performance by Bruno Mars.

Jay and Gigi come back out to officially welcome us to the 2016 American Music Awards, which were voted on by the fans. Says Pharoah, "Green Days performing and a white guy is president. It's the Nineties all over again."

Tonight's first presenters are Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monáe. They're presenting Pop/Rock Duo or Group. And the American Music Award goes to Twenty One Pilots.

Gigi intros a highlight of Artist of the Year nominee, Justin Bieber. Jay then intros Barely Famous's Sara and Erin Foster, who in turn introduce a performance by Niall Horan.

We go right into a performance by Fifth Harmony.

Nina Dobrev and Julianne Hough are out next to present Rap/Hip-Hop Album. And the American Music Award goes to Dobrev's fellow Degrassi alum, Drake for Views. Drake gives a shout-out to his hometown, Toronto.

Jay and Gigi introduce a performance by The Chainsmokers. This followed by a performance by James Bay.

Idina Menzel and Mark Cuban are presenting Country Duo or Group. And the American Music Award goes to Florida Georgia Line.

Jay reads some of Kanye's rants like "I invented McDonalds", before introducing a performance by Green Day.

Robert Downey Jr. talks about tonight's Award of Merit honoree, Sting. It's followed by a medley of hits performed by the music legend. Downey Jr. then presents the award to the singer.

Hailee Steinfeld and Blake Jenner present Pop/Rock Female. And the American Music Award goes to Selena Gomez.
