The fall of 2001 saw the moviegoing world split into two sometimes overlapping camps: Those whose most anticipated movie was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and those clamoring to see The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. If George Lucas was releasing a film right now, we’re sure somebody would go crazy.
Based on J.K. Rowling’s book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone ([Philosopher’s Stone in the UK and some othe countries) presented an unenviable task for director Chris Columbus. It was not going to be easy to live up to the expectations of millions of readers, but with the co-operation of Rowling (who blessed every detail of the production) the end product is getting many positive words from those who have seen it.
