The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe took the New Year’s weekend from King Kong as the two flicks continued their weekend battles.

Narnia edged out Kong with an estimated $32.8 million from Friday through Monday while Universal’s big ape hit second with $31.6 million. This was a reversal of last weekend’s box office battle.

Jim Carrey’s Fun With Dick and Jane stole the third spot with $21 million while the Steve Martin/Hilary Duff sequel Cheaper by the Dozen 2 took in $19.3 million. That flick actually took in 26% more than last weekend. Jennifer Aniston’s Rumor Has It rounded out the top five with $11.6 million.
