Fast and Furious weekend

Weekend box office estimates have The Fast and the Furious, the fast-paced street-racing flick winning the number one spot with an estimated $41.6 million.

Considering the film has no A-list stars, its very impressive that it knocked off some of the bigger guns out there. Still, Eddie Muphy’s Dr. Dolittle 2, which critics said was aimed squarely at the 12-and-unders made it to second place with an estimated $26.7 million. Not bad, but off the $42.5 million opening of his last sequel, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.

Skin-tight outfits didn’t save Angelina Jolie, last week’s winner, as her action flick Lara Croft: Tomb Raider dropped 58 percent to third place take of $20.2 million.

Atlantis:The Lost Empire paddled to fourth with $13.2 million.

Shrek may be down to number 5 but it’s still dropping slowly and it’s weekend take of $11 million has taken it over the $215 million mark.

Swordfish, the spy caper which stars John Travolta and Halle Berry’s breasts, beat out the WWII flick again this week with $7.7 million haul.

Pearl Harbor continued to take its hits at the box office and dropped to seventh with $7 million and a five-week total of $172.1 million.
