Eight people lost their lives at a Pearl Jam concert in Denmark when they were crushed to death as the crowd pressed forward against the stage on Friday night. Twenty-six others required hospital treatment.

Police said the crowd just pressed forward, accidentally killing the victims against the open-air stage at the annual outdoor Roskilde summer rock festival.

In a statement Pearl Jam said “There are absolutely no words to express our anguish in regard to the parents and loved ones of those precious lives that were lost. It is still unclear as to what actually occurred, but it seemed to be random and sickeningly quick…it doesn’t make sense.” The band had repeatedly asked the crowd to move back before the accident occurred.
