300 conquers weekend

The Spartans of 300 battled to the top of the box this weekend, taking in $70.8 million. Not only was it the third biggest opening for an R-rated feature (after The Passion of the Christ and The Matrix Reloaded) but it was also the biggest March debut and biggest IMAX opening too.trailer for the film. 300 went into the record books as the third-biggest opening of an R-rated movie in history (after The Passion of the Christ and The Matrix Reloaded). Last week’s topper, Wild Hogs, was almost $40 million below 300 with a $27.6 million 2nd weekend. Now in its fourth week, the fantasy flick Bridge to Terabithia added another $6.7 million while Ghost Rider’s take crossed $100 million with a $6.6 million fourth week. The crme drama Zodiac rounded out the top five with about $29,000 less than Ghost Rider.
