Golden Globes take a stand

Jan 07, 2018 by Ian Evans

The 75th Golden Globe Awards were handed out this evening and straight from Seth Meyers opening we knew that the show was not going to shy away from the social issues that have dominated the last few days.

“Good evening ladies and remaining gentleman,” said Meyers. “It’s 2018. Marijuana is finally legal and sexual harassment isn’t.”

Besides top winners like Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Lady Bird and acting wins for Frances McDormand, Saoirse Ronan, James Franco and Gary Oldman, it was also a night for acceptance speeches in support of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements. One of those speeches came from Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient Oprah Winfrey, who had the audience on their feet.
