The third Academy Awards ceremony took place on November 5, 1930. The ceremony once again took place at the Ambassador Hotel. For the first time, the winners at the ceremony were based on votes from the full Academy membership.

Best Picture went to director Lewis Milestone’s All Quiet on the Western Front. The film, based on the novel by German veteran Erich Maria Remarque, starred Louis Wolheim, Lew Ayres, John Wray, Arnold Lucy and Ben Alexander.

Actor George Arliss won Best Actor for his performance in Disraeli, a role he had also performed on stage.
