The 41st Academy Awards started off the Academy’s fifth decade in a new home and with a new audience. After eight years in Santa Monica, Oscar had returned to Los Angeles and the new 3000+ seat Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Except for a handful of times, the ceremony would take place there throughout the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties.

The 41st was also the first time that the Oscars were broadcast worldwide.

Heading into the ceremony, the following film(s) had five or more nominations:

  • Oliver!: 11
  • Funny Girl: 8
  • The Lion in Winter: 7
  • Star!: 7
