When the nominations for the 66th Annual Academy Awards were announced, Schindler’s List emerged with twelve nominations.

Jane Campion, nominated as Best Director for The Piano, became only the second female director to be nominated. The first was Lina Wertmüller for 1975’s Seven Beauties.

While the venue remained the same, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the telecast would have a new host, Whoopi Goldberg.
