Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, a member of the R&B trio TLC, was killed in a car crash in Honduras on Thursday. She was one of seven people in the vehicle and the only fatality.

“Left Eye” was the most controversial member of TLC to say the least. The 30-year-old singer hit the papers in 1994 after she burned down the house of her boyfriend former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Andre Rison. She was given five years probation and subsequently entered rehab for a drinking problem.

She also fought with bandmates Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins over their last album FanMail when none of her songs were included and their tour was marred with fighting. The band had been together for over ten years and many said the verbal barbs were just a “family fight”.

“We had all grown up together and were as close as a family,” her bandmates said in a statement Friday. “Today we have truly lost our sister.”
