Kiefer Sutherland, who plays Jack Bauer on the series 24, will be doing some jail time after pleading no contest to his recent DUI charge.
As part of his plea, Sutherland will begin serving a 48-day sentence in December during the show’s winter break. He’ll serve 18 days then for violating his probation for a 2004 DUI and will then have until July 1st, 2008 to serve another 30 days for driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit. He must also take an 18-month alcohol-education class as well as attend weekly alcohol-therapy sessions for six months. The judge also ordered the sheriff not to use electronic monitoring as an alternative to jail time.
In a statement, Sutherland said that, “I’m very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently, and I’m deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers on 24 and at 20th Century Fox.”
