Comedian Bernie Mac had died at the age of 50. The star of The Bernie Mac Show and Ocean’s Eleven passed away this morning at Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was being treated for pneumonia for the past week.

Just yesterday, his publicist said he “responding well to treatment.”

Mac’s sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease that had taken root in his lungs, was in remission and was not related to his hospital stay.

He was best know for his role as the no-nonsense dad on The Bernie Mac show, which ran from 2001 to 2006. He also appeared with George Clooney, Brad Pitt and friends in Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen.
