Sylvester Stallone stars in Rebel.
Sylvester Stallone’s lead debut, Robert Allen Schnitzer’s Rebel, has had a 4K restoration and will have a director’s cut theatrical and on-demand release on June 6, 2025.
In the movie, Jerry Savage (Sylvester Stallone), an anti-war activist on a secret mission in 1969, meets Laurie, a pretty hippie jewelry maker. In NYC, Jerry joins a radical terror cell planning to blow up the headquarters of a Vietnam War defense firm. As the FBI closes in, Jerry runs off to see Laurie at her rural commune. They fall in love. Jerry barely escapes the dragnet, but his ill-fated romance with Laurie proves deadly.
It’s had a long history of releases. Written by Schnitzer and Larry Beinhart, it was produced in 1971 under the title Seize the Time! Working on a tight budget, it was released in 1973 under the title No Place to Hide. When Stallone hit it big with Rocky in 1976, the film was out on home entertainment again under the title Rebel. Finally, with the rights his again, Schnitzer has recut the film to what he says is the closest to his original vision.
It stars Stallone, Tony Page, Vickie Lancaster, Dennis Tate, Barbara Lee Govan, Rebecca Grimes, Roy White, Henry G. Sanders, and Jed Mills.
