  • Final ballots for the 74th Academy Awards® were mailed February 27th to the 4,263 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences residing in California. On February 22, ballots were sent to voting members living outside of California and overseas. Listed on the ballots are the nominees in 19 Oscar® categories. Separate ballots for 5 award categories (foreign language film, short and feature-length documentaries and animated and live-action short films) will be distributed after verification of mandatory member attendance at screenings.
  • Multiple Grammy-award winner Faith Hill will perform at the 74th Academy Awards. This will be Hill’s second time performing on the Oscar® show and will mark her first public performance since September 21st, 2001. She will sing her recording of “There You’ll Be” from Pearl Harbor, written by Diane Warren, which is nominated in the Best Original Song category. “I’m honored to have been asked to perform Diane’s song on the Oscars,” said Hill, “and I’m looking forward to being there again.”
  • Academy Award® winner Gwyneth Paltrow is slated to make her third appearance as an Oscar presenter at the 74th Academy Awards®, while writer/actor Owen Wilson will be making his first.

This will be the avant garde Cirque’s first time performing on an Oscar telecast offering a “tailor-made” presentation. “Cirque du Soleil will be performing a piece that is a salute to a particular aspect of film we will be honoring,” said show producer Laura Ziskin. “I’m not going to say exactly what they’re planning, but I can tell you that it will include a film element and will be spectacular and original.”
  • Actress Charlize Theron will present the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Scientific and Technical Awards on Saturday, March 2, at the Regent Beverly Wilshire.
