Two Towers crosses $100 million in 5 days

The second of the Rings films, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, had a fantastic opening as it took in over $102 million since Wednesday and $62 million over the three day weekend. That compares to the $47.2 million weekend/$75.1 million five-day for last years The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

The new Hugh Grant/[textileRef:196450270565f921e653ae4:linkStartMarker:“Sandra Bullock”:/cr/sandrabullock] film, Two Week Notice, pulled in $14.3 million for second place, while last week’s number one, Jennifer Lopez flick Maid in Manhattan, added another $10.7 million to its coffers.

Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis and Cameron Diaz, premiered in fourth place with $9.5 million while Drumline rounded out the top five with another $7.1 million in its second week.
