Hosted by Will Rogers and taking place at the Ambassador Hotel on March 16th, 1934, the 6th Annual Academy Awards marked the one and only time that the films under consideration were released in a span longer than twelve months.

The change was necessary as the Academy wanted the next ceremony to reflect a calendar year, so for the Sixth the eligibility period was August 1st, 1932 to December 31st, 1933.
