David Dukes, a veteran character actor better known to Dawson’s Creek fans as Mr. McPhee, is dead at the age of 55.

The actor, who was shooting the ABC mini-series Rose Red, collapsed on set and never regained consciousness. Medical examiners said the cause of death was a heart attack.

Dukes appeared in the epic mini-series The Winds of War and its sequel War and Remembrance. He received an Emmy nomination for HBO’s 1991 mini-series The Josephine Baker Story. He also appeared with Brendan Fraser and Sir Ian McKellan in 1998’s Gods and Monsters.
