According to weekend estimates released by the studios Men in Black II, which stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, kept the number one spot with a box office of $25 million.

That was just under $3 million higher than the second place film, the Oscar®-buzzing Road to Perdition which stars Tom Hanks. It pulled in about $22.1 million but played in less than half the screens that MIB2 played in. Dreamworks wants this picture to have and legs and slowly build its audience by word of mouth, so it will add a few hundred more screens to the mix next week.

Reign of Fire, which stars Matthew McConaughey, Christian Bale and fire-breathing dragons, opened in third place with $16 million. The fourth spot was held by the umpteenth Halloween sequel, Halloween: Resurrection, which premiered with $12.3 million.

Adam Sandler’s Mr. Deeds was fifth with $11 million, while Steve Irwin’s The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course was sixth with about $10 million.
