Abigail Kathleen Breslin was born on April 14th, 1996 in New York, New York. She followed in her brother Spencer Breslin’s footsteps and headed into the acting world. Her career started, like many do, appearing in commercials until her big break in 2002 when M. Night Shyamalan cast her in Signs with Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix and Rory Culkin.

Abigail followed that with guest starring roles on television shows like Hack and What I Like About You. In 2004, audiences were delighted to see Breslin on the big screen again appearing in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement with Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews and working opposite her brother and Kate Hudson in Raising Helen. That year also saw her in the psychological drama Keane and making appearances on the television shows NCIS and Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit.

In 2005, Breslin was seen in the made for television movie Family Plan, but it would be a year later when she would capture hearts on the big screen again. The independent film Little Miss Sunshine, which starred Steve Carell, Toni Collette and Alan Arkin, was a huge hit with audiences and garnered many awards, but the biggest prize was Breslin’s Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, the youngest nominee in Oscar history.

In 2006, she followed that success up with roles in The Ultimate Gift and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. The next year, she shared the screen with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Aaron Eckhart in No Reservations. In 2008, Abigail played Ryan Reynolds’ daughter in the romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe with Isla Fisher, Rachel Weisz and Elizabeth Banks, worked opposite Jodie Foster in Nim’s Island, and had the title role in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl.

The following year, Breslin starred opposite Cameron Diaz in My Sister’s Keeper and worked with Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg in Zombieland.
